REBEKAH CIRCLE NEWS:  Even good things must come to an end.  Five of us met this month for our last official meeting as the Rebekah Circle.  It was kind of bittersweet – to remember all the good things this group has done, which would be too numerous to even begin mentioning, and to look and laugh at the pictures that were taken during specific sponsored events, so it is sad to see an organization end.  Three of the founding members, Diana Bauman, Lorri Baudo, and Kay Paajanen were present at the closing.

We made final plans for the “Spring Fling” and we hope many will sign up for the various jobs that are necessary to make this a success, such as set up, manning the 3 areas, take down, and lots of baking.  We do need your help!

Then we sorted through all the files and papers that had accumulated since its inception to decide what to keep for church records and what not to keep.  The “not to” pile was impressive.  In that process, I came across the very first minutes of the start of the Rebekah Circle, which was dated September 18, 1989 – 28 years ago.  I hope another group starts up where we have left off.    Georgia Mikola, Secretary

On Saturday, May 6, our church will host a huge fundraising event, the SPRING FLING.  The proceeds from the Rummage Sale will go to the 150th Anniversary celebration of our church, which will be in 2018.  The proceeds from the Boutique Sale will go to the Rebekah Circle to complete the church projects that they have undertaken.  The proceeds from the Bake Sale will be split between the two groups.  This is a huge project for our church and we need the participation of EVERYONE!  Please volunteer by donating items, helping to set up, helping to work at the event, as well as shopping at the event.  We cannot reach our goal without YOU!

PASTA DINNER:  The 150th Anniversary Committee is holding a Pasta Dinner to raise funds for the 150th Anniversary Celebration to be held in September of 2018.  The dinner will be held on Sunday, May 21, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm.  The menu will include pasta and meatballs, toss salad, Italian bread and butter, dessert, and beverages.  The cost is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under.  This is a Thrivent sponsored event and is open to the public.  Please invite your friends!  For tickets, please contact Diana Bauman at 330-856-6034.

PENTECOST SUNDAY:  Remember to wear your red and bring your red geraniums to church with you on Pentecost Sunday, June 4.

PARISH EDUCATION:   Some important dates to remember and mark on your calendar:

June 4 – Pentecost Sunday/Confirmation

June 11 – Senior Recognition Sunday

July – Vacation Bible School will be held at Living Lord in July.  We need some volunteers to help with this program.  Program will run Sunday evening through Thursday evening, July 9 – 13.  Please contact Pastor Bill, Lynn, or Debbie Groves if you can help with this program.

December – We will again host the Christmas Program and Luncheon in December.

FOOD COLLECTION:  For the month of MAY we are collecting toilet paper and jarred spaghetti sauce.

2017 FLOWERS AND MEDITATION CANDLES:  Weeks are still available for purchase, dedicated to your special intentions. The meditation candle is $5.00 and flowers are $30.00 for two vases. Please use an Order Envelope and PREPAY your order at the time that you sign the flower and candle chart. PAYMENT ENVELOPES ARE BY THE FLOWER CHART. On weeks where there is no paid order, the church will display silk flowers to the Glory of God.  Please sign up for your special weeks while they are available.

RED CROSS VOLUNTEERS:  Saturday, May 27, will be the next Red Cross blood drawing in Cassel Hall.  Volunteers are needed to register donors and to help with the snack table.  Donors appreciate a smiling face and a little conversation while they wait.  The volunteer schedule is flexible.  Contact Bonnie Thompson at 330-272-1400.

SPLASH TODAY:  Donations are always warmly welcomed, and with your continued support, we will be able to sustain this valuable ministry to young families.

GRIEF MINISTRY:  Part of the Social Committee is Grief Ministry. Joyce Osborn (330-372-2136) is spearheading this ministry with Pr. Winters’ and God’s guidance and help.  When a loved one dies, Joyce sends a set of four books called “Journeying through Grief” throughout the first year. Each book describes the issues and feelings that a person tends to encounter at various points of grief and the books offer suggestions on handling them.  If Pastor Winters or Joyce can be of any help or if you have any questions during a time of grief, please contact either of them.

DUE TO GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS:  In the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), churches and clergy can no longer make written or oral public announcements of health information regarding our members.  Thus, unless specifically requested by a member to share other information, we are only able to indicate where a person is hospitalized or that they have been discharged.
