ST. PAUL NEWS & EVENTS
COMMUNION SERVICES: We will return to celebrating Holy Communion every Sunday beginning on May 2.
GERANIUMS: We are planning to plant the red geraniums around the outside of the church after Pentecost Sunday. The cost of each plant is $6.50. The deadline to order is Sunday, May 9. Please make your check payable to St. Paul Lutheran Church and mark “geraniums” in the memo portion.
CELEBRATE GRAND-FAMILIES: “Celebrate Grand-families” is a support group for grandparents raising their grandchildren. St. Paul is reaching out to support these families with Christian compassion and a place to meet and discuss their needs. While the grandparents meet, we will have crafts, games, bible stories, snacks, help with homework, tutoring, and a fun social time for children. Sessions in May will be on Saturdays, May 8 and 22, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. Please contact Liz Chapin at 330-394-7308 to help.
FOOD OUTREACH: Delivery of hot meals continues April 23. We will deliver boxes of shelf-stable foods to several families in need. Marty Maurice will make at-home communion available for members at that time. We are thankful for the response from you. Our hope is to maintain the servant project, once a month, through the year, recognizing an essential need in the community and to keep communication with some of our members, too. The following suggested items are always appreciated; cereal, soup, pasta, canned meats (tuna salmon, turkey, chicken), boxed potatoes, gravy, and peanut butter. Delivery for May will be on May 21. Monetary donations can be made to the church with FOOD OUTREACH on the memo line. Questions or suggestions, please contact Bonnie Thompson at 330-272-1400, Debbie Illencik at 234-308-1626 or Grace Shiau at 330-720-4579.
MUSIC FESTIVAL: The members of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Living Lord Lutheran Church are invited to attend the state convention events of the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs to be held at St. Paul on Friday and Saturday, May 21 and 22, 2021. There will be a concert presented in the sanctuary on Friday at 8:00 pm beginning with organ solos, followed by the Jubilant Ringers, the Hand Bell Choir of Living Lord Lutheran Church, and the National Federation of Music Clubs 2019 Young Artist winner in strings, Alexander Hersh, a cellist from Chicago. He has performed with the Houston Symphony and the Boston Pops. Hersh is co-artistic director of Nexus Chamber Music Chicago that is dedicated to deconstructing the traditional barrier between audience and performer. The concert will be followed by a reception in Cassel Hall. The cost of the concert, including the reception, is $5.00, payable at the door. On Saturday there will be three free competition programs given by outstanding piano, string, and vocal students from all over Ohio ranging in age from 10 to 19 years of age. The first program is from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon given by students younger than 7th grade. The second program, given by students in grades 7-9, begins at 1:00 pm, followed by the program given by students in grades 10-12. Many of the students are from northeast Ohio, including Boardman, Canfield, Cortland, and Cleveland. If you have any questions, you may contact Jeannine Morris at 330-392-5690 or email@example.com.
ANNUAL CONGREGATION MEETING: The Annual Congregation Meeting to elect Council members will be held on Sunday, May 23, at 11:30 am.
LET’S TRY THIS AGAIN – RUMMAGE SALE: We are planning to have another Rummage Sale to be held on Saturday, August 7, with the proceeds going to the church’s general fund. Please begin to save your unwanted but useable items but DO NOT bring them to the church until further notice. This includes clothing, books, small appliances, tools, and household goods. As in the past, we will need lots of help with set up, pricing, and working at the sale. Thank you in advance for your donations and for any help that you are able to give. Please see Brenda Ceplecci (330-534-2388) or Bonnie Thompson (330-272-1400) with any questions.
